BRAVE NEW WORLDS

Brave New Worlds are a design led performance company based in the UK and Berlin.

It is a collaboration between theatre maker Valentina Ceschi (Co-Artistic Director Dancing Brick), Lithuanian visual artist Guoda Jaruseviciute and designer for performance and lecturer Kate Lane.

In a radical approach to devising theatre they explore how design can be a live art form and look to create contemporary performance that is instigated by the scenography. Where the aesthetic is the driving force using a purely visual language their work becomes a moving living sculptural painting; a tableau vivant with a story-arc. They are interested in utilising the stage space as a cavity to be filled, where all elements from the set to costume to the performers’ bodies are working in unity. Where form and function are the driving force in communicating concept.

The company have held residencies at The Point; Eastleigh (UK), Plateau Gallery, Berlin and at the Barbican Centre London supported by Barbican and Guildhall Creative Learning.

Performances include Pilot Nights at macBirmingham, MK Gallery in Milton Keynes, The Yard Theatre & Block 336 in London.

Forthcoming Exhibitions include ‘Costume at the Turn of the Century’ Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum, Moscow and their work has been selected as part of the UK exhibition for the Prague Quadrennial for performance design and space, Prague and will be exhibited in ‘Make/Believe’ at the V&A, London later in 2015.
